Getting to Know You Blog Hop with The Cut Shoppe

Hello crafty friends! The Cut Shoppe 2016 - 2017 Design Team is hosting a blog hop to introduce the current designers and let you get to know each of us a little better.

To begin, I want to share with you a recent project I created using the lovely Rosey Posey cut file from The Cut Shoppe Etsy Store (get it here) and the new Simple Stories Sunshine & Happiness Collection.

I love anything flowery and this file is a perfect fit with my photo, the paper, and the embellishments.

Now, a little bit about me.
1. How many times in a week do you work on something scrapbook related?
The amount of time that I get to spend scrapbooking varies depending on the time of year. Since I am a high school teacher, I do get to craft quite a bit during the summer and various breaks from school. However, during the school year I try to get out to my craft room 3-4 times each week - sometimes not at all. This may only be for 30 minutes or less at a time, but it is still time I enjoy.
2. What’s your favorite subject to scrapbook?
The majority of my layouts focus on the everyday moments in our lives, and the funnier they are the better! My kids are my favorite subjects and the dogs are a close second. Having a camera on my cell phone has completely changed my scrapbooking because it is with me and ready to go at all times! My kids will tell you they are scarred for life due to some of the layouts I have done, and there are many that I have had to pinky swear I won't put online.

3. What is your favorite color to use on your layouts/projects? What is your least favorite color?
I don't know if I have a favorite color, but I can tell you that I am not a fan of pink or purple. Using either one is a struggle for me. Like seriously. My favorites would have to be bright colors, black, white, and gold. Most of my layouts begin with a piece of white cardstock and go from there.

4. Why do you like using cut files on your layouts/projects?
Using cut files on projects really gives them extra oomph and takes them to another level. Taking a piece of flat, square paper and turning it into something completely different is really what I love. Cut files give me the ability to create original, one-of-a-kind projects and I love that artistic freedom.

5. What are some of your other favorite hobbies? If you were not a scrapbooker, what other hobby do you think would consume most of your time?
Before I was introduced to scrapbooking, I did quite a bit of sewing but nothing much other than that. In the past few years, I have been creating mixed media canvases and I could see myself doing more of that. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without my paper. I have always had an affinity for it- the feel, texture, smell - okay, that was a bit weird, but you get the picture.
6. Tell us five things we don’t know about you!

1) My husband and I have the same birthday and red hair
2) I love 90's grunge/alternative bands but also love to listen to big band music
3) I am a major WWII buff and watch documentaries when I am scrapbooking
4) I was the associate dean of education at a college before teaching high school
5) One of my first pets was a pot-bellied pig that rode in my car and walked on a leash.

  1. Nice layout Jennifer, I can't believe you had a pig as a pet (we had them in the farm back home years ago, but were not nearly as social as yours)

  5. I teach high school as well! I was thinking we are much alike then I read you had a pet pig and that all fell apart. I also love pink and purple on layouts but I have a five year old who only wears those colors so I don't have much choice:)
